About the show...
Don't let the title put you off! Urinetown The Musical is a must-see laugh a minute treat.
The show hit the big time in 2002 gaining 10 Tony nominations and winning three, including the two biggies _ Best Story and Best Score.
In Urinetown, energy, strong music, pace and brutal, black humour combine into a show that has something rare these days _ originality!
It makes affectionate fun of shows such as Fiddler, West Side Story and even, gasp, Les Miserables! What's worse, it even pokes fun at all the politically correct ideas about conservation and sustainability that abound these days.
Urinetown is set in the future when water is so short that we can no longer afford the luxury of toilets in our houses so we must all use public facilities administered by the Urine Good Company. (Say it quick and you'll get the idea ).
This is the absurd premise that underpins the show which has murders, illicit love affairs and some great dance numbers.
